Fox Building & Engineering Ltd host Ivor Goodsite Hoarding Competition
Despite the rainy weather, there was a big turnout for the unveiling of Knocknagoney Primary School’s artwork to mark the redevelopment of Blanchflower Playing Fields. Representatives from Belfast City Council and Harland and Wolff Welders were in attendance.
The project, which is being funded through Belfast City Council’s capital investment programme, will create a new IFA Premiership standard soccer pitch, pavilion and stand, alongside an additional 3G pitch for community use.
The Hoarding Competition invites sites that are registered with Considerate Constructors Scheme throughout the UK and Ireland to paint collaborative masterpieces on site hoardings. In all, 303 pupils from Nursery to Primary 7 spent six weeks working in small groups designing and painting, allowing the budding young artists to showcase their talents. Angela McCullough, Vice Principal commented, “All of the children in Knocknagoney Primary School have thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to work together, alongside Fox Building & Engineering Ltd, to create the designs for the hoarding and display their artistic skills."
Alderman Brian Kingston, Chair of Belfast City Council’s Strategic Policy and Resources Committee, said, “It's great to see how the contractor has built a very positive relationship with the local primary school to get the pupils actively involved with the project.”

David Whiteside, Community Liaison Officer at Harland and Wolff Welders commented "This will be a first-class facility for East Belfast, the talented work of art by the local children will hopefully become a permanent fixture in some way when the new stadium opens."
