Knocknagoney Primary School and Nursery Unit, Knocknagoney Road, Belfast

Welcome

Dear Parent,

A very warm welcome to Knocknagoney Primary School and Nursery Unit.

This website provides you with information about school life in Knocknagoney Primary School and our Nursery.

Pupils are at the heart of our school and we have a long standing reputation as one which provides a happy, secure and caring environment, stimulating each child to fulfil their true potential.

Knocknagoney Primary and Nursery are recognised locally as hidden jewels. This was endorsed in 2012 by the Department of Education Inspectorate who noted:

  • The commitment of all staff to the education and welfare of the children.
  • The quality of teaching and learning.
  • The supportive and inclusive ethos throughout the school.
  • The quality of the children’s behaviour and the pastoral support provided within the school.

In fact, the Inspectors, finding that there were no significant issues for school improvement, deemed it unnecessary to carry out a follow-up inspection – a rare thing indeed, and one which speaks volumes about the educational provision here in both our Nursery and Primary School.

Skills and interests are developed, knowledge is valued and acquired, and independence is fostered through good home/school learning partnerships. Parents are encouraged to be involved in their child’s education so that together we can provide the best learning environment for our pupils.

We actively encourage participation from members of the local community in the life of the school and have excellent links with many local businesses, churches and community groups. In 2018 we became a Shared Education School through the PeaceIV programme and were fortunate to link with St Patricks primary , Holywood. We have been able to share some great learning opportunities as well as strengthen community links and form lasting friendships.

I hope you find our website informative. If you would like to know more, please contact the school and we will be happy to meet with you and answer any queries, which you might have. I look forward to seeing you in the near future and welcoming your child into our school community.

Yours sincerely,
A McCullough (Principal)
